Unclear On The Concept... Crackout Edition

So I'm back from Portland ( ANA National Money Show - had a blast)

But there was one dealer - in the interests of propriety I will refrain from naming him - who had played the crackout game.

Scattered throughout one of his cases was about half a dozen slabs with old ACG labels taped to them. So you can see where this was going - he had cracked them out of ACG slabs and sent them into another TPG and was showing off the results. They were widely different - a couple of EF40s were now VG8s, a couple Fs went down a point, one crossed at F15.

About what one would expect from crossing old ACG to PCGS.




But it wasn't crossed to PCGS


Was it NGC?




No




OK, digging a bit... ANACS?

No, nor I Can't Grade





Um... digging deeper


SEGS?



No...





He had crossed them to our dear friend





NNC




The only analogy I can come up with is going to the dump and buying a new (used) seat for the outhouse. Sure it's new to you and the splinters will at least stick you in slightly different places, but come on - it's still an outhouse seat...


(Note I am not referring to the de Kooning/Pollack outhouse seat - that's a special case: Is It Art or Just a Toilet Seat? Bidders to Decide on a de Kooning and I can't not point to this follow-up piece, AUCTION FAILS TO FLUSH OUT A BUYER FOR PIECE OF ART.)

I guess NNC grades other people's coins tough (all 10 of them they receive a year) while saving the inflated grades for the coins they own.
