I realize that the Big III TPG'ers (PCGS, NGC and ANACS) are their own separate organizations, but they do not agree on what varieties they recognize.

ANACS will attribute all VAMs in the Morgan dollar Series, but PCGS and NGC will only recognize certain ones, even though there a couple of reference books to identify from.

PCGS does not recognize anything that is not in the Cherry Pickers Guide, even though there are some obvious hum-dingers out there in Re-punched Mint Marks (RPM).

Just wondering...why the discontent?

The discontent is because TPG's which purportedly exist to serve the collector fail to do so by not acknowledging the things we collect. If we didn't collect them - if there were no demand for them to meet - discontent wouldn't be this widespread. It's exacerbated in many cases by simple failures in attribution, errors not due to misprinted labels.

Come on, man. If we can do it, why can't you? That's why we're unhappy.

PCGS doesn't recognize some of the coins on the published lists when they will recognize others. Top 100, Hit List etc. Sometimes it depends who is submitting the coin for attribution whether they want to do so. If it throws the heavy hitters from the registry sets out of kilter good luck getting one of the funky feathers or Top 100 RPD's recognized. Been there done that, especially with Funky Feather. Sent in a lock PL coin for grade and attribution. Attribution denied as not PCGS recognized but graded MS63. I figured it a MS61PL maybe a 62 on a good day. Got disgusted and sold the coin same week I got it back. New owner resubmitted and POOF! it came back MS63PL and attributed. All this happened within 3 weeks. Go figure. nlp

Ya, I started submitting to PCGS a little over a year ago and was told on the phone when I explicitly asked that if I check the VAM vox the coin will be checked for vams and I will only be charged the $24 if a VAM is found. They made no mention that they only look for a very small few... point is they led me to believe by way of omittion that my morgans were being checked for all vams. The guy knew coins and I'm sure could tell I was green but then again what's he gonna do recommend annacs, I guess not but still... also, I was told I had to actively renew my subscription. I forgot and what do u know I paid for a coupon of 8 free subitions... thank god for ebt
