Interesting, the locomotive engravings used on my 1941 Bank of Communications 10 Yuan and on the 1942 Farmers Bank of China 50 Yuan posted by xavierz27 appear to be one and the the same, just cropped differently.

Lucky Cuss - I'd noticed that. They're both printed by the same company. With the 1942 notes they used the same design for notes issued by the Bank of Communications, Farmers Bank and The Bank of China, only changing the colors and the bank name/signatures. I assume they were issued in a wartime emergency so didn't bother with more suitable designs. Poorer quality too.
