Hi everyone, I'm from Texas and new to this forum and coins in general. I have a pretty extensive collection of foreign currency that I've acquired over my years of travel. I have some NASA mission coins that I know nothing about. I've done some internet research and I'm unable to even find a picture of any that I have. I do know that many coins were made for each mission but I'm having a hard time finding the particular ones that I have. Does anyone have a good working knowledge of these NASA coins? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Chris

First off, Welcome... for the second half of your message, this will probably do better in another section, I've asked the Mods to move it.

Let's see... they are not legal tender (coins) so technically they are medals.

Many different companies manufactured medals (or medallions), some for sale to the public, some as team building items (e.g. by various manufactures of space components). Some were flown in space, most were not.

Heritage Auctions has held several sales of Space Exploration items, you can see them in the archives... start here: http://www.ha.com/c/search-results....+exploration

That will get you started...

The best way to find them, is to google the mission and what is on the medals. As been said there have been hundreds of different medals. Anybody can have a commemorative medals struck as a money making deal.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll be attempting to upload pics soon. I have 12 mission medals in total and one medal replica of the moon plaque. I've attempted for several days to locate any photos of the specific medals I have and can't find one single photo on the internet. As far as the composition, they have Argor 999.0 stamped on them. It's my understanding that this is the silver used to make them. Would any of you guys know if these were pure silver or if there was a way I could check? Thanks again!

Google images will have more pics then you will want to look thru! You will have to google each coin with what is on them. If they are silver they should have .999 or sterling etc on them or around the rim of the medals or they can be plated. Most pawn shops and jewelry and coin stores have test kits for the assorted noble metals. you will still have to test them as they have been known to stamp fake ones before! And that is as pure as you will find. AG is the periodic symbol for silver in English.
