There are other dealers, including Canada Post, that offer the coins in this nickel series separately.
Does it make sense that the mint doesn't give a "mintage" figure for the boxes? I'm not sure....
If they said it was a total of 3,000 subscriptions and 5,500 individual coins, what if only 2,000 subscriptions were sold? Would they be obligated to destroy the 1,000 set of coins produced for the subscriptions?
I think it probably make more economic sense for the mint to just stick with the mintage of the coins themselves.

Quote: Northern Coin, You can only buy these in the subscription set, so unless they have a bunch of people opt out, and they sell off random coins after the series is over, I don't see these being available separately. To clarify a bit: the coins (1-st, 2-nd) have been distributed separately by the Dealers, not by RCM. With all the beauty of this set, I feel not comfortable spending $600, when some of the designs I like less. Decided to buy the 1-st, Tombac (V) and the Beaver. So I already have the 1-st coin. Well, with all the recognition, that the full set looks amazing, and belongs to the theme that I do want to collect, I happy that find the way to save here and enjoy from the sub-set.

I think it probably make more economic sense for the mint to just stick with the mintage of the coins themselves. All they need to do is list a "Maximum Mintage" for the subscriptions, If they don't sell all the subs then it wont matter, but at least we have a figure for the Subs. It maybe economical for the RCM to do it the way they are doing it, but its also economical for me "Not" to buy their unknown mintage subscriptions. I guess I should thank them, saves me money.

See, if you like it and all the coins and have a budget - order, do not "break you head" with the thoughts about amount. Since you concern is even not the mintage. The absolute maximum is 8500. Taking in account coins sent to dealers and CP - you can take estimation as 5000 sets (boxes) as maximum.

All I know is since I saw the coins I have like 'em and I don't much like NCLT.. I've had a hard time contemplating tossing $100 per coin on this one.. but I think it would look really really nice all the same.
It's tough because they also have a "big coin" series.. which would look cool in a display case as well... but those are much more pricer.

Was home from work for lunch and got the 2nd coin + box delivery by chance. It would be really nice if they engraved the box with the name of the series or put on a little plaque so as to make the box less generic. I unique and well done box makes the set slightly more appealing. RCM is just dumb to not understand and execute on these details.

They make the box generic so that they can order thousands and bring the overall cost down. adding some sort of plaque would cost a lot, and that cost would be past along to us the end consumer. would you pay $120+ per coin for these?

I'm sure they could order a few thousand glue on plaques for relatively low cost and provide these to the box supplier to glue on. Just an idea to make a subscription unique - like the resin canoe.

That subscription was only a 1/2 ounce coin, if you are not in manufacturing/wholesale/retail, you don't understand costing. Yes they could do exactly what you want heck they could make them out of red maple and inlay with cedar, and line it with silk.
End result is a product that costs WAY TOO MUCH.

Okay top gun, you win. Adding anything to make a display case unique is just a bad idea. Heck, they may as well get rid of the box and just ship them in a paper bag.

Very nice pics of the box and subscription so far, looks like you are enjoying that series. I saw the first two coins in the Post Office and they looked nice. You could get them all in clamshells from Canada Post but would need to buy a box, which would likely be difficult. I am going to hold off on the sub but am looking forward to the release of the 1967 Hare. The V 1945 will be hard to pass up, it is next in the series. Nice series. I mean very nice series. I like the COAs go in the top of the lid, but the box is fairly plain.

Would that be like a "Display Bag" Make sure its a "Plain Bag" wouldn't want the Mint to dish out a few cents for some printing on the bag.

Quote: They make the box generic so that they can order thousands and bring the overall cost down. Or the RCM is just incredibly cheap at times. I mean you'd think that for a $3300 set of coins they would spring for something a little fancier than vinyl clad cardboard with some gold coloured ink stamped on the lid. (Vancouver 2010 $75 Coloured Gold Coins) Quote: adding some sort of plaque would cost a lot, and that cost would be past along to us the end consumer. would you pay $120+ per coin for these?
$370 for a gold coin deserves more than a corrugated cardboard flip with a hologram sticker on it, even if it is part of a set. Colonial Acres sells individual cases for $5 retail, I'm sure RCM, buying in bulk, could pay ½ that or less and absorb the under 1%.

In 2014 RCM somehow managed to put out a decent coin with a music box and it did not appear to significantly inflate the cost. My 11 year old daughter loves ballet and really appreciated the coin and music box for her birthday last year. Just sayin'.

The idea of the music box was nice, but wouldn't it have been better if the displayed coin twirled to the music? You are welcome to make each display your own. A little imagination, and skills you could make your own boxes unique. Maybe a new thread as a challenge to all?
