I live in Shreveport, but am having the darndest time gettiing circulated pennies here- all banks I've gone to (10+!) have only 2007D BU rolls, except occasional roll here and there of customer-rolled. Seems like customers don't bring in pennies to the bank anymore. 9 out of every 10 pennies I've gotten in change lately have been 2007D. Please, we are flooded with them! Anyhow, I got $50 in pennies from California shipped to me instead. Found 12 wheats, with 42S being the oldest, and a very nice 1907 VG Indian cent- my first ever IHC after decades of going through bank rolls. Maybe a dozen-15 Canadian cents from 1966-2000, a half penny from 1971 (British?) and many many S mint marked coins from 68-74. I also scored several possible DDO 92 and 93 coins- some are stronger than others. I haven't finished counting yet or figuring out whether I have any 70S small date, but I sure hope so! However, there is some very interesting data in what I have completed already, like 12 69S but no 69 P, and about equal numbers of P and D from late 70s, and then a sudden D/P skew that is more than 10:1 ratio. In the $17 in circulated pennies I've been able to get from Shreveport area, I've found more wheats (3) than S mint marked from 68-74 (2).

if you use coins shipped in from across the country you need to let Chuck know or the project would be mute. he is looking for coins from each state if you count them from Calif and you are in LA it will throw the thing off Gary

Hey! Did my first sort and have gone through all the 0, 1 and 2... I must be tone deaf when it comes to the zinc vs copper... just when I think I hear it... they all sound the same again (can't sing either!) Found 1930D, 1942, 2 - 1952D... and a 1915 almost unrecognizable... found this pretty 1971S rainbow... (some of you already saw it... I think the prettiest coin in the 5000!) Most of the later dates are Denver mint... which being in Montana is how it usually is... 12 - 2000, 267 - 2000D!

I just finished sorting a box and to my amazement there was not one copper cent in the box. Everything was 1982 zinc to present. The box was a sealed brinks box. I wonder if they are starting to filter out the copper cents. Has this happened to anyone else? Will have to get another box next week and see if it happens again.

out of my two box's I would say I got about 15-20% copper one roll was all what looked like ms coins from 59-82 with a nice mix so I am thinking it was an accident that it got spent. so I went and got another box of fed wrapped rolls just to make it more of a controlled search Gary

garylcsr: I am aware that geography matters greatly in THE CENT PROJECT and Chuck knows already that I sorted some from California even though I'm in LA. When I send the spreadsheet into Chuck, it will have a mark on it where the coins originated. Thanks for your comment and all others who are sorting coins that are not from their area should also make sure they note on their spreadsheet.

Just completed second box of 2500 in NW Florida. Have a total of 27 wheat cents all EF to AU. Nothing rare on the Wheaties and still need to check all coins for varieties. Had 13 illegible cents and 2 Canadians.

I've sorted $29 in pennies from Shreveport area- I have not been able to get the full $50 yet- circulated rolls are hard to come by- most banks only have solid $25 boxes of BU 2007D! After 30 years of going through penny rolls, I got my first ever proof pennies from circulation- but not just one- SIX! All are terrible, corroded pieces- 1 86, 4 87, 1 88. Also got 3 steelies (1 43, 2 43D) and a few other wheat cents.

Ok, so I sent an email to volunteer a couple of weeks ago from two different email accounts hoping to volunteer, and I've had no response yet. Do you guys think I should go ahead and start counting?

Mycrob: Sounds like someone collection was coinstar-ed or cashed in as cover a theft. I hate when that happens.
