Ok here we go. I don't have any of my reference material here so take this with a grain of salt.....
Its not a fancy 5 so its an earlier minting but the Dies have deteriorated hence the retooling on United and maybe on the Cents. This series is notorious for weak or offcenter strikes yours is both weak and slightly offcenter. The vertical and horizontal lines of the shield appear to be intact but the arrows are flat so we are not talking about and MS coin here codydude815 this series is a graders nightmare but if you are certain is MS63/64 when you get to 50 posts I can offer you dozens of these at EF AU prices. :-) Joking aside and back to the coin. The feathers on the right should be stronger than the ones on the left but they are not this also indicates wear. It does not appear to have been cleaned which is a plus. The ribbon is slightly worn and not as defined as it should be even considering the strike. There is also a flatness to the wheat ears
1865 was the second year of minting and the second highest mintage but they did circulate and finding one in anything better than VF is not easy from the pictures I would consider it to be a solid 35 in hand I may even say EF40 which means with your track record PCGS would call it AU. The New ANA grading standards book would call it EF45 maybe AU50 but I still prefer my 1970's photograde. Its very nice of you to show me the coin you are going to send me as a Christmas Present this year. if you have forgotten my address PM me and i'll remind you.
Now just you try and find a 66 in this grade.....
