If the postage is clearly indicated and you bid on it then that is that. I have a 3 mile journey to the post office and time is money.

I see no problem as long as the seller clearly stated the shipping fees and stated the method he was using (1st class, economy, priority, etc...) then I have no problems with how the coin gets to me. I would only consider neutral/negative in this case if they stated they were sending it a certain way (priority for example) and you paid the shipping fees expecting priority and then they cheaped out and sent it some other slower/cheaper way to save themselves a buck...then I don't like that.

Who doesn't think that First Class w/tracking isn't implied with a $3 shipping charge? It's "almost" industry standard. Even if the shipping method is stated as USPS First Class, that could still be a postage stamp. Some of the shipping method choices in the ebay listings leave plenty of wiggle room, unless it's something specific like Priority Mail. The seller returned my message with, "you got the coin cheap, and the shipping factored into the bidding." A less than glowing reply imo. So I replied that, if that's the way you see it, make shipping a buck, and that will factor into the bidding, and your coins will bid higher, and you won't lightly tick off your customers. I gave him a positive feedback, and dinged him on the shipping and communication, and commented about the shipping methods. BTW I do have empathy for those in other countries with high shipping costs.

A 1st class stamp in the UK is over $1 factor in the envelope and time $3 is more than reasonable. If you don't like the listing don't bid. Do you want the coin to be hand delivered by a buxom lass on a silk cushion?

Couldn't agree more with JDmern and Peter 1234. Op has little to no idea on shipping and handling costs in MO. Don't get all wound up over a three dollar charge . Easy just to shop elsewhere.

Quote: Op has little to no idea on shipping and handling costs in MO. S & H costs? Are you kidding me? I sell on ebay too. It takes 3 minutes to put a coin in an stamped envelope, and drop in a drive by mail box on my way to work. Sheesh. Nice to see I started a thread where many people have a chance to comment Quote: Do you want the coin to be hand delivered by a buxom lass on a silk cushion? Now that would be nice. Our mail lady sometimes walks a package to the door, but she doesn't quite meet your description

Don't bother leaving any feedback at all. Here's what you get for my $1.95 s&h fee: Quote: Shipped safely in a padded envelope, with a packing slip, and a USPS tracking number provided to you! Purchases over $100 will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with signature confirmation/tracking, the extra cost to be paid by me. Will ship within three business days of payment, usually the very next day! Not counting postage ($2.32 usually) I use Staples 6x9s, Avery 8127 shipping labels, common printing paper and Staples brand packing tape. To be short, it costs me more than $1.95 per package. Trying to make money off s&h fees is "ludicrous", imo.

61 rating nothing for sale ? What do you sell on ebay? O completed 0 sold? Please let us know about shipping and handling and how you make a profit in business? Said many times , in business if you do not cover ALL of your REAL costs you are doomed to failure. TIME is probably one of the most expensive costs in any business.

Quote: Who doesn't think that First Class w/tracking isn't implied with a $3 shipping charge? The shipping charge does not imply anything. When bidding, be it from an auction house, or through ebay, the shipping charge simply an additional cost which has to factored into the price which you are bidding. As long as the coin arrives on time and in the same condition as stated, it does not matter whether it comes via a stamped envelope, a tracked envelope, a stamped tracked envelope, a passenger pigeon or hand delivered on the silk cushion that Peter suggested... It arrived as promised!! I do not think buying and selling coins needs to be made out into this adversarial process that it seems to be made out to be sometimes on here...

agreed JD , just buy auction lots from Heritage , DNW , Noble , Spinks or Bowers and you will see what REAL shipping costs are. It is PLUS PLUS PLUS. A five hundred dollar auction lot delivered to your door easily attracts an additional 40 dollars shipping and packing!

Quote:61 rating nothing for sale ? What do you sell on ebay? O completed 0 sold? Not sure what you're looking at. 31 feedbacks as seller, and currently 2 modest coins for sale. Free shipping for one, which will be a stamp, and $1.99 shipping for the other which will be first class with tracking. I have sold many coins from this account, not sure what your settings are showing. I also have another ebay account I buy and sell from. I failed to mention that a couple of days previous I was looking at several of this sellers coins from my other ebay account, and asked a very nice question about combining shipping. The seller replied with, 'No, the coins are cheap enough as is.' I'm glad I only bought one coin Thanks AAR, Quote: Don't bother leaving any feedback at all The only reason I did, was to be fair and comment on the seller's shipping practice so other buyers would know. Didn't mean to strike a nerve with some, I thought it was a simple innocent question in the OP.

Quote:A quick look at the top 200 PCGS MS65 Morgan listings on ebay shows all but one have free shipping There's a very simple reason for that- The shipping cost is built into the price

The shipping cost is obviously built in. There is no free in business ! It amazes me in the Coin World how many people expect something for nothing or huge discounts . If you go out for dinner and a movie do you negotiate the price , or heaven forbid not tip the wait person. Santa may arrive on XMAS day for the kids but I have never seen him at a coin store on ebay or walking the bourse floor! To stay in business you have to cover all your costs it is that simple! So there are two ways about shipping, jack the price to cover it in the listing and say free shipping or be transparent and add it on to the price. We do both and seldom do auctions. Auctions are a sure fire way to disaster on ebay. It is buy it now with best offer and clearly stated shipping and handling or BIN free shipping. I might add with almost 10000 successful ebay transaction we are making money.
