Greetings,
For anyone who might be in central California this weekend, our local coin club (the Fresno Numismatic Society) is hosting its 41st annual coin show at the Las Palmas Masonic Center. The address is 2992 E. Clinton in Fresno. Showtime is 10AM to 5PM Saturday 10/27 and 10AM to 4PM on Sunday. Admission is $2 for adults and your Saturday admission gets you in on Sunday also. Kids get in for free. We'll have 25+ dealers, exhibits, door prizes, and a nice raffle with a St. Gaudens $20 gold piece as top prize.
Please consider dropping by if you're in the area; we'd love to have you!

Hello Jaobler:

I'm about 3 hours away and will try to be there Sunday. I'll be wearing a St. Louis Cardinal hat so please stop me and say hello.

Hey Darrell,
Sure, I'll be on the lookout for the Cards hat. I'll be there both days.

Some dealers start to pack it in a couple hours before the official closing time on Sunday, so for best selection I suggest you try to make it by noon or so. Hope to see you there!

I didn't see Darrell at the Fresno show, but I was there! I traded a few coins and picked up three nice items: a 1909-S half eagle in AU, an 1890-CC Morgan that had been graded by the original ANACS service as MS60/63 (it looks nicer than that!), and the big one, an 1800 AMERICAI variety bust dollar in VF. That coin will be a highlight of my collection for some time. I'll post photos when I have a chance.

One of my co-workers won a nice 1883-CC GSA dollar with a raffle ticket I sold him. I told him 6 tickets for $5 was a good deal! I offered to take it off his hands but he's keeping it for a grandchild. That's one lucky kid!

Even our dealers were happy. They all signed up for tables for the next show. Overall, it was a very successful event. Hopefully a few Coin Community members will have a chance to check it out in 2008.

OK, by popular demand (well, one request anyway; thanks Tights!), here are my new acquisitions.

1) 1909-S Half Eagle in choice AU. I especially liked this one because it actually has a sharp mintmark. At $270 I think I got a good price.

2) 1890-CC Morgan graded MS60/63 by ANACS on a certificate from 1986. This coin is in a plastic holder designed to display the cert along with the coin. I was happy to get it for $340.

3) 1800 Bust dollar graded VF-35 by PCGS (Americai variety). I still have to finish paying for this one; fortunately the dealer offers generous credit terms!

That's it!
