I know a goal of many world coin collectors is to get a coin from every country...so that started me thinking. Is there a list anywhere of every country? I need to know what I'm shooting for!

I posted my list of countries (at the time) here in this old thread. It's quite long, and includes many semi-independent states, territories, and quite a few ancient, mediaeval and modern nations which no longer exist. For an online list of current countries of the world, you could try this one on Wikipedia. There's also a detailed definition there of what exactly a "country" is, in order to be included in the list. Note that there are plenty of "non-qualifying countries" that nevertheless issue coins. Personally, for a list of current countries, I go by the ones printed in the Britannica yearbooks.

I go by the countries listed in Krause. If it ain't in there to catalog then I doubt I am gonna find it. But you do also need to look at the "Unusual World Coins" book as well for the different not a real country countries.

I pulled a list off the United Nations website, as I decided to try to limit my list to silver proofs of currently existing countries. I don't know about you, but I always try to find some way to put limits on what to collect (doesn't usually work though ).

Don's got an extensive list but that is only from his own personal collection. It's not a complete list

The old thread link contains a compiled list. Includes Sap's list and some others.

For current countries, you could refer to the CIA World Factbook: https://www.cia.gov/library/publica...k/index.htmlI've been working on building my one-coin-per-country collection by working from highest GDP to lowest. I'm thinking that will allow me to focus on the most common coins first.

I have silver coins from 124 countries and territories and I try to have one of each countries (but if I like coin). I don't want to buy ugly coin only if the country missing. I made table with list of world countries and territories and to each new country I put color on. I like the map of blueczar but for little countries it is not easy I presume. blueczar, where do you found the map and make for colors ?
