He correct on those half boxes . My last box I got 17 silvers I was going try to trade for rolls of 1946 thru 1964 dimes, or 1932 thru 1964 silver quarters to build my set.

You can also start pulling the 1959 thru 1981 pennys out those fed boxes to resale on ebay. These days people are paying 100 to 110 bucks for 50 dollar face on those copper cents . I been pulling like 25% out those 25 dollar fed boxes on pre 1981 pennys. On wheat pennys I get about 10 per box of coins. Most are culls.

If you want you can buy the those whitmans or he harris folders and build the 1965 thru 2007 quarters and dime sets for resale on ebay. Same on 1962 thru 2007 nickels. Very hard to build the 1938 thru 1961 from bank rolls or pre 1964 silver stuff . I never found any silver quarters or dimes in fed boxes or rolls before after going thru thousands of them.

Like I said your best boxs are half boxes since you will find proofs or silver there. Trust me its very hard to get banks to order them for you.

If the bank gives you brand new Bu rolls in those fed boxs. Dont open them since they will buy brand new fed boxes of bu coins on ebay. They rare and I onley got one box so far of 2007 denver pennys after buying over 15 boxes over serval weeks.

One last thing your not going to get rich doing this. I do it as something to do and to make an very small profit to buy coins for my collection. Stuff I cant find in fed boxes to finish sets I want.

Checking bills is a bit easier than going through coin rolls since all you have to do is deposit them to another bank. There's no roll wrapping or coin counting fees. Plus, nobody blinks if you ask for a thousand dollars in ones, twos or fives.

Check for consecutive serial numbers, serial numbers that have numerical patterns (121212...) or all of the same numbers (657888889) or a red star next to the serial number.

The good thing about living in the US is that you have some ignorant people who deposit silver coins who either don't know it's real value or don't really care much. There is a member in cointalk who nearly had a heart attack when a young boy used a $100 platinum coin as payment. Good grief you know what that is in bullion value today.

But the moral of the story is, if you keep searching, you will be rewarded. And hey, you don't even lose anything other than time as you are getting what it is worth face value.

I buy coins all the time to "flip", but most of them end up in my collection.

I really hope that person told the young boy what he was doing was wrong and advised him what it's value really was. If the person took advantage of that young boy the shame on him.

Now sometimes you have to order boxes of Halves or other things. Sometimes tellers have no idea what you are talkin about so just ask the head teller and they can help ya out.

I'd recommend having 2 banks ya work with. One to withdraw halves from and one to deposit to. I tie my PayPal account to both and once the $1000 is deposited I dump it into my other bank. Ain't a a stinker?

easiest way I find for sorting halves is keep the box. Open a roll. Sort it. if you find silver then take out the silver and put a non-silver half in it's place. reroll it in wraps that you can get from the bank. put it back in the box. if you do this one at a time it's a LOT easier then making a big pile in the floor. (not that I have done that with 2000 halves )

check first to see if you need to write your account number on the rolls. Some banks say yes....mine doesn't thankfully. It's much easier to write when they ain't rolled. Or better yet buy a stamp.

if you have any silver you have several options. Take it to a coin show and get up to 95% of spot value. sell em on ebay. or stick around a bit and once you can buy/sell/trade you can offer it for sale to the members.

1964 and earlier is 90% silver so about $5.00 a coin
1965-1970 is 40% silver so about $2.00 a coin
There are proofs you can find but they are a bit rarer.

There are a few ways to search em. You can squint and look at every single date, just simple look at them for that distinct whitish tone, or one method I use when I don't have as much time is to drop them on each other. Silver has a different ring then the copper/nickel.

I've yet to order a box of halves. However, when I have asked for rolls, I have averaged 1 silver per roll and have found 2 proof halves and 1 Liberty Walking half in very circulated condition. The season is coming for roll searching.

Last time I sorted my brother in law and dad helped me with a box. I sorted twice as fast as them but sadly they BOTH found twice as much silver in their rolls as mine!

Still got to keep it all since it was my money

My go to buy at my bank just orders 2 boxes when I ask him since I have a good relationship with the bank. It takes a couple days and he calls me when they are in.

To my knowledge No bank will have em in stock since it's kinda like a grocery store stocking a product that no one will buy. It has to be special ordered. That's why I recommend having a good relationship with 2 banks. One to take from...one to give to
