This one has been tormenting me all day and I wanted to get some other opinions on it. Acid-dating it revealed a 1926 on the observe, and I feel like I see SOMETHING on the reserve, I just can't make it out. Does anyone else see anything or am I just crazy? It was very difficult catching a shot with my camera that reflects what I see with the naked eye, but this was the best I could do... So is there a mintmark there, (hopefully S) or am I just seeing things?

I see what you are seeing. That is a tough one! Maybe it used to be a d.

Kinda stinks because this would be a nice hole filler for my set, but I don't know that I will ever be able to definitively identify it. Seems as if was just a bit too worn for the acid to fully work.

I see something rounded where the mintmark should be. It kind of looks like a O to me.

Vinegar/hydrogen peroxide is what I used. Evey coin I have used it on revealed everything quite clearly in about 4 hours. I kept this one in it for probably 12 hours or so and that's all I got.

If its an S it's a key date. But it looks like a D to me.

I'm sorry but I don't see anything.

I saw an 'S' both on the original picture and in the enlargement. Just an opinion. And I tend to be conservative.

So we have people who see D, people who see S, and people who see no mintmark! Looks like I found a real winner with this one! I don't think I've ever had a coin torture me like this one. I've held it at every angle under every possible source of light and I just can't figure it out.
I guess it can't hurt to give it a last ditch vinegar/hydrogen peroxide bath overnight and see if anything better comes out.

After soaking it in vinegar again and checking it this morning, it looks like a D. I'll try to get some more pictures tonight and post them.

New pictures! Took these after another night-long soak in acid. To me, it definitely looks like a D now. What say you?

What do you mean "like the ones before"?

Looks like a D to me also. Hey, you might as well keep going for a full horn.
