is this a silver 1992 D penny I hear about? it is silver in color and does not stick to a magnet. it is dirty but I don't want to clean the dirt off.

American cents are made of copper-plated zinc. This is a cent that, by one means or another, has lost it's copper plating and is now just pure zinc. The "dirt" is zinc corrosion.

That is what I was thinking too, we found a steel Wheat penny and thought we would get lucky twice lol

Is it silver all over? Or just the high spots? The pics look like there are patches of silver.

That is one of the science experiments that some one added zinc to cover the copper plating. If this were an un-plated planchet, the surface would be smooth, not rough looking like this example.
