Hello all,

I'm new to the forum - cataloging my dad's coin collection and have run across a Standing Liberty quarter that has the date worn off. I'm hoping someone more "seasoned" in this field can give some hints/tips on dating the coin. All the major features are visible including the vertical rows of stars on the obverse side but I've yet to detect any sign of the date.

Any input or ideas?

Thanks

well there is a easy way to tell a 1916 and 1917 type 1's from a 1917 and up type 2's, it is on the Obverse Liberty has a bear breast. The Reverse on the type 1's doesn't have 3 stars under the eagle which it does have on the type 2's. Chances are overwhelming if it has any features mentioned of the Type 1 that it is a 1917 because 1916 is very scarce and very hard to find

Bryan1315,
Thanks for the quick reply - I plan to post a pic when I get home. This particular coin DOES have the 3 stars below the eagle. Cannot tell about the 'bare breast' the wear is significant enough that such detail is not present on the coin.
Sounds like it is type 2 (which I had presumed) and I may not be able to tell exactly what year. Too bad as there is a fair amount of detail still visible on the coin but the date is most decidedly worn off.
Thanks again
