I rec'd a 2001 Canadian cent in change today. I am used to the dull thunk that our Zincolns make, but this cent has a higher pitch ring to it and has no "P" on it. Are any of you aware of bronze cent errors for that year? I think it's probably zinc but just want to make sure.

Can you give the specs.. dia, weight/mass & thickness... perhaps a pic too! Only thing that comes to mind is perhaps a planchet flaw or mule...

If it truely isn't copper plated zinc

What was the weight on the copper plated zinc Canadian cents? I don't have a scale that small but I know a local coin shop that can weigh it for me.
I know what would prove it, but I don't want to file the coin...lol.

Stick a magnet to it, if it sticks its a PL or SP steel penny which should have a P . If it doesn't stick its a copper plated zinc issue.

Didn't think it was the copper coated steel, those made an even duller sound. It doesn't stick to a magnet. I'll hafta look up the weight on the copper coated zinc ones and see if it matches. I'll be keeping it anyway because banks over here don't take it and change counting machines spit them out.

2001 zinc weighed 2.25 grams, steel ,issued in sets, weighed 2.35 grams. Last year of copper CND cents was 1996.
Sounds like zinc to me.

I think your right, Denny. I'll have my local coin dealer weigh it just to make sure, but I don't expect any surprises.

2001 zincs had alot of plating issues too like bubbles and lined, dull surfaces. Not a very attractive penny that year IMO.
