so this looks double to me, not like md. so is this a double die? I couldn't find an example of this year with this type of doubling.

Hi AT - the pictures are too small, but looks MD as such. Ideally, you want to post pictures of a decent size, especially for us older folks who need magnification to see things clearly. I think I've seen it posted that 800x800 is ideal for seeing the fine details.

ok sorry, I clearly thought that md was when it was the die was a smear type look, this one is the same level as the other dies so I thought it was double. That's a bummer

If it is the same level I would post better pictures I've seen you post better pictures before. I'm sure you can get some. That's why I say in mine from this distance. No worries

Hang in there AT - if it weren't challenging then the finds wouldn't be as valuable or rewarding. As Tweak notes, closer pic's will allow us to render a better judgment. Coop posts a collage of 5-6 different looks MD can present. Normally though, a flat shelf-like detail adjacent to the narrowed device. With true DD, you'll note thicker devices and they'll be about the same height as the adjacent device.

Good luck on the hunt and post us some larger pictures if you can.

as I look at the upside down seven the device is reduced due to the doubling, so while it is double, it is not doubled.

AT214,Doubling is not Doubled its a way of splitting the 2 from one another and more important,Doubled means the Die was worked 2 times and Doubling means the image on the coin is showing double image.

Look at this ways Doubled refers to the Die itself being doubled.

AT - follow this link http://doubleddie.com/144801.html

Here you can read up on Worthless Doubling and what to look for. MD is Mechanical Doubling or sometimes referred to here as machine damaged doubling. When the die wobbles just a tiny bit, the devices are sometimes 'reduced' in size and shifted. Most of the time, the wobble is small, say less than .010". Other times, much more significant.

So while your coin had doubling, it has worthless doubling (MD). Most coin collectors consider that a damaged coin only worth face value. What you are looking for are real doubled dies. If you browse Wexler's site, you can read up on what to look for (e.g. Class II vs Class V doubling) which will help you to train your eye/brain. After a bit, things become more apparent.

I'm a novice at this, so others here will have better explanations and direction. But reading up at Wexler's site will get you further down the path. Good luck!!

Yes, better size. However, your file sizes are very small and this is causing your picture quality to suffer. Even when I try to expand it, the pictures are too grainy. Keep your files around 180kb and maintain as much quality as you can. Sharpness matters on the finer details of variety pic's.

I am trying guys I promise. but thank you for your patience, and it does sux this turned out to be nothing.
