You would definitely need closer and more clear pictures to be able to tell if it is a double die. Another thing to look for is RPM or repunched mint mark. I couldn't tell you if it was any of those without better pictures. As a regular penny without being anything special it is worth about 3 to 5 cents

It is not the big doubled die. It is a Denver mint, the rare one is from the Philadelphia mint. There are only two known. Looks like a circulated coin. Nothing special to grade it for.

The second coin is most definitely not a doubled die, just common Machine Doubling.

The date clearly shows Mechanical Doubling.

Mechanical Doubling
Mechanical or Machine Doubling (MD)occurs when there is a problem in the striking process, not with the die itself. These errors do not appeal to collectors the way doubled dies do and don't have much collector value at all. http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/error.html

I though I read in a post that Machine Doubling (the doubling itself) was towards the outside of the coin, towards the rim. Was this an inaccurate statement ?

Mechanical Doubling can be in any direction. Doubling caused by die wear is usually towards the rim.
