They have some years that aren't 21's, but I'd say they might be VF's for $25 plus tax. I can't make my mind up!

Nah. VF's at $25 plus tax aren't justifiable to me. I'd only buy them as bulk silver and I want a better deal on bulk. The question always in your mind for stuff like this should be, "What's the odds I can flip these for profit next week?"

A pawn shop is THE worst place to buy or sell coins. I quit even bothering sticking my head in the door years ago. It's the numismatic equivalent of buying a used car from a guy in a plaid sports coat. Know this too he probably paid some rube under $10 a piece for them. I try not to encourage these shysters.

Ya, I went in there a while ago when silver was sitting somewhere near $18 or something and picked up some slabbed 70 W ASE's for $30.
You make a good point Celtic, I shouldn't even support place like that. I'm sure he didn't even pay $10 a piece for them, I'd love to know how much of a mark up these guys do.
I'm a medically retired vet, and was in my LCS a few days ago and a guy walked in that was clearly strung out on something, the owner knew him, but wouldn't let him through the door. He wanted to know how much a Buffalo nickel was worth that was beat to crap. The owner said I dunno .10, He asked if he could have .10 for his Buffalo nickel... turns out he used to be a gunny in the Marines. The owner gave him the .10, but I was just like man, that is so sad.... but the LCS owner gave him what he said, I doubt a pawn shop would charge him for the nickel.

with SD on this 100%.

The pawn shop is going to have to drop that price considerably to draw my attention for a VF common date Morgan.

I've gotten some of my best deals in pawn shops, but it's very hit & miss, and you have to be persistent because it'll generally be a miss. Whether you can make out on such dealings all depends on how they view their merchandise - some look at silver coins purely as bullion, and buy & sell them on that basis, and those are the places to frequent when you find one. Unfortunately, my experience is that they eventually either wise up or go out of business. Right now I don't have a good (from my standpoint) pawn shop to patronize.

I find up here in Canada the guy that owns the pawnshop is never around .So you have something that already has a price on it in the display case .Try to make a deal on it ,but the people that work in there have no authority to make a deal ,so it is just a waste of time.

Ya, I decided not to go. Figured I'd save my money for the coin shop instead. I wish craigslist was more of a hit for buying scrap gold and such. I figure it's better not to support shops like the pawns here. What's weird is that I've been in a lot of different ones in different states and the one, or the one I'm referring to is literally one building away from another pawn shop. Only one has a few coins, the other doesn't, but what's weird is neither have TV's, tools, or anything, just basically jewelry with the name pawn shop. I wonder if there's different tax set ups for someone with a pawn name instead of jewelry place.

I've the thought that calling it a Pawn Shop instead of a jewelery store adds flexibility to the revenue stream. Perhaps that's all they wish to sell, and don't make loans on other stuff beside jewelery. I can't see much of a regular shopping demographic for pawn shops, you know?

That's a double-edged sword. The majority of shops know nothing about coins and overprice accordingly, but they won't know they have key dates or varieties either. That's why I never pass a new pawn shop.
