This penny is just beautiful, love the different tone and how it changes from one side to the other. It is two toned on the reverse and I'm not sure if it is PMD or lamination error or a type of Greaser or what but it is tantalizing in its own rights. Don't really appear to be damaged by human since the obverse doesn't show the same signs as the reverse, I was thinking it got dipped in something but then both sides would have looked the same. Still cool to look at, so what happen to this coin is the question.

Looks like it was run over multiple times in a parking lot!

Thank you guys both, but being run over doesn't fit since there is no scratching to the surface, this is not incuse waves and not scratches. and the design waving on one side and smoother on the other in a fade way it just don't seem to fit being run over.

@silverstackerkid, could you tell me what type of PMD? I kind of figured but with the reverse not being scratched I wasn't sure how the faded waves, with the shiny almost new like look, happened, so maybe you could shed some light on it? was it dipped in something like acid?

sorry I meant to say the scratches that are on the surface don't fit the profile of being run over, clearly there are scratches, sorry, but you can see the difference in the surface scratches and the overall appearance, that's why I said that. But having said that and looking at it, Maybe these are older scratches and then it was circulated a lot of the years and dulled the appearance?

I agree with pete. Looks like it has been crushed into some kind of pavement, rather than rubbed in some pavement, which would leave scratches.

PSD. It did look like that when it was struck. Rim is damaged also. Still a copper planchet.

There's never any way to know for certain but I do like to guess!

It most likely got dragged around a parking lot, as has been suggested, and I think you're right -- the worst of the damage was smoothed out through subsequent circulation.

@coop so it did look like this before being struck or didn't. Sorry was a little confused by your post. I'm thinking you meant it didn't look like this before being struck because you said it looked crushed multiple times. It just look so so different from all the other damaged coins since it all same level across with the lines level with the rest of coin and not scraped away like in others. Thanks
