Today is the anniversary of the Treasury Department making the Kennedy half dollar available to the public. Just thought I would share this fun fact!

Thanks for pointing that out, Jake!

As a point of reference, Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963, so it took a hair over 5 months to get the coins out. 4 months, if you consider the legislation wasn't passed until 1 month after the late President's death. Production started in January. That's moving pretty quickly considering we're talking the U.S. government.

Happy birthday thedollarman, hope it is a good one!

Man - the 50th anniversary would have been a nice opportunity to close the books on the Kennedy half though. No offense to Mr. Kennedy but it would have been cool to see a design change for the 2015 coins.

HBD thedollarman!

Interestingly enough, this unit I'm learning in History 10 talks in-depth all about the Kennedies.

It is not from a lack of trying.

I think one year it was mid April before I found new coins. I hope this is not a record setting year.
