I'm just wondering how people consider the dimes of the march of dimes set to be as far as being in the rooselvelt series Will these dimes be the new key date of the Roosevelt dimes or will they just be a side thing to the series.i just see them as being too rare to gain traction as part of a mint date set of roosevelts.

I know right now the 1996 w dime is the key but it saw wider use because of it being in all the mint sets. Will dime collectors see the new dimes as part of the main series. I was going to get a 1996 w dime for my album but didn't have a slot for it so I ended up backing off getting it.

I don't see why it would be. It's not a dime as the 1996 w dime was. It's basically just another commemorative coin.

For people who have to have one of each type (proof, circulated) yes it will be. For those who are only interested in circulated coins, no...

They will be the keys and will likely have hefty premiums that increase with time.

Well it IS a proof dime...so compare it to other proof dimes not MS dimes (MS 1996 w was over 1.4 MILLION)

1950/51 proofs were under 60k

It is definitely NOT "another commemorative coin" though. It's a dime

I think KisNap might have been thinking of the dollar coin, not the proof dimes included in the special set.

I think it will be a key date. I don't like thinking singularly (i.e., that it will be **the** key date). Look at the Kennedy half and Jefferson nickel matte finish proofs. Those are keys for those out there who collect either proof only or MS and proof. The 50K mintage EU 2014 Native American dollar is a key date. It might take weeks after the mintage is exhausted from the mint before you see prices for them jump massively, or they might take months or years, but it will happen. The 1996-W dime isn't all that costly, but the mintage is to blame for that. Too many, whereas 75K for the Reverse Proof dime would create scarcity. How much scarcity all depends on how many Roosevelt dime collectors there are. 50K mintage would have been better, but that's just me.

How quick do you think the dime set will sell out?

Good question... fodder for a poll topic perhaps?

personally I don't intend to find out...I'll be buying as soon as possible after they go on sale.

If I have the funds available I'm going to get 5 sets. I think it's going to be very popular.

Interesting since it goes on sale in May

...and regarding a sellout. In reality it will definitely sellout but with the way the Mint operates now it will be a LONG, painful sellout with multiple "backorder" and "out of stock" and "remind me" events.

They probably packaged 20-30k sets and the rest will go through the above statuses (is that a word?).

Case in point: the 2014 Coin & Currency set with the EF $1...still not listed as "sold out" even though it sold out the second week of December

I think the dimes will sell out very quickly and see massively inflated prices until demand is met. I'm hoping to get 2 sets and catch the peak of the demand curve for at least one set.

I am curious though... do you guys think it might be worthwhile to get the dimes slabbed in the hopes of getting a 68/69/70?

This topic is clearly about the dimes, not the dollar, and those (in a set with the dollar) do not go on sale until May 4th.

It's a dime. It'll be in limited quantities. It'll be a key.
