Please look at the crossbar of each T in STATES and tell me what is going on. At first I thought PSD, but it seems too symmetrical and too coincidental to be that. It looks sorta like split serifs but they are the only ones affected, so it must not be doubling. Could it simply be advanced die wear? I am stumped.

Most likely ejection doubling, IMHO. Very nice Woody though.

It is another form of machine damage. Not how the devices are reduced by it?

Thanks. I can understand machine damage. What I do not understand is by what mechanism it selects a couple of devices, but not the next one to them?

I think it's a matter of the dies not wearing perfectly evenly. The pressure is adjusted for the ideal strike and after awhile that just isn't happening so parts of the coin will have weaker devices....maybe.

It is caused by die movement. They get sloppy and then do weird things during the striking and ejection process. Thus they are machine damaged.
