I was surprised to see all the chatter on the back of this coin graded MS65. Is this acceptable to you cent collectors?

Also it looks like a bit of lamination peel at the left of C in CENT. It is described with woodgrain tone which suggests an inferior planchet. Do peels go with woodgrain planchets? What do you make of it?

I am on the same line of thinking as you. Next to the "C" does look like a lamination and I too am surprised to see it graded as MS-65. Personally I would grade it as MS-63.

MS62 or MS63 here as well, you would do well to sell it and buy a MS63 with better eye appeal.

Someone spent too much time looking at the obverse when grading this one.
Rest in Peace

Thank you for the responses. If I was PCGS I would buy it back to get it off the market.

matttheriley - it's not mine, but an ebay lot I came across, I think in a "woodgrain" / 1946 search. I am a sucker for nice woodgrains (some of us are sicker than others.) At $45 OBO I thought it terribly overpriced.

I agree. Keep in mind tough that there are 5 grades higher than 65. 65 is a standard not a perfect coin. Start at 70 and deduct for flaws etc...I would have gone with 64

Awesome coin, it has the infamous lime green toning stripes. It's a pretty rare type of toning. I think the pictures are detracting from how the coin looks in hand. It must have nice luster, it's the pictures making it look bad...out of focus. Even with funky pics I can see the cartwheel luster spokes.
