SilverTracker Pillar of the Community United States 589 Posts	Posted 03/25/2015 12:57 pm Hi All, I figure this may be the best place for this posting since my question involves Canadian coinage. I would like to know the date range and silver percentage of Canadian dimes, quarters, half dollars & dollar coins dated in the twentieth century. I ask this because I have been to my dump bank many times over the last 6 months where after I search US coins I use their coin machine to redeem my money. I check the undercarriage for rejects and possible silver coins that get stuck or pushed into and to date I have found a tremendous amount of Canadian coinage. Thanks for all the help. JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21584 Posts	Posted 03/25/2015 1:08 pm Up to 1919, silver coins contained 92.5% silver. From 1920 to 1967, they contained 80% silver. Paulsz Pillar of the Community Canada 2187 Posts	Posted 03/25/2015 1:10 pm Anything 1967 and older is silver (except pennies and nickels). For dollar coins: anything from 1935 to 1967 is 80% silver. 1968 onwards is 100% nickel. For Half dollars, quarters, and dimes: 1919 and older is 92.5% silver. from 1920-1967 is 80% silver. 1968 onwards is 100% nickel. Note for QUARTERS and DIMES: in 1967, some were made of 50% silver and others 80%. Nonetheless, it's still silver. Also, for 1968, some were nickel, others 50% silver. You could do the magnet test (magnetic = nickel). This only applies to quarters and dimes Hope this helps! Report this Post to the Staff

okiecoiner Pillar of the Community Canada 5584 Posts	Posted 04/15/2021 6:49 pm For Canada coinage from 1920 to 1967, every face dollar is .6 troy oz of silver, be it dollars, halves, quarters or dimes. Just get the scrap silver price (it's usually in US$$) and multiply it out with the US/Cda excahnge rate. Report this Post to the Staff
