I purchased this 1946 dime, MS-60 for $26 including postage. The double plastic on each side makes viewing the coin difficult. So I am contemplating taking it out and mounting with the rest of my 1946 collection holders. I don't think the financial hit will be that great not having the ICCS approval. What do you think?

I see you are from the U.S. do you plan on removing it and sending it to PCGS? I would leave it in the holder if it was mine.

TN: not sending for regrading. Just want to be able to see it better. Wasn't able to find a raw coin in nice shape. It is for my 1946 year collection.
What does ICCS charge for coin grading?

I sent coins in last week for the first time . Was 11 dollars per coin. I understand lower prices in bulk. Nice coin by the way.

My buddy took advantage of a sale they had... 100 coins for $8 each.. sometimes you can get a good price if you go through a dealer that gets a volume discount.
My opinion is this...
The coin is yours! Do with it what you please. If you wish to see it raw... then do so! Point is you should enjoy your collection and how it's presented... if you don't enjoy looking at it b/c of the plastic.. taking it out is a very simple solution...

I do the same thing with my Silver Dollar collection. I remove them from the ICCS flips and put them in capsules with the rest of the coins. The only ones I retain in holders are MS64 and higher. Anything less and I don't think it hurts the value too much. I keep the old flips for reference.

Ag: this is true. JimmyD: thanks. After all, its only a MS-60, not like it's in short supply :)

Interesting: under 10x it shows distinct evidence of buffing not discernable through 2 layers of plastic.

Forget the potential loss in ICCS approval. In my opinion, the potential value loss is small enough to tolerate. A question you may ask yourself: 'What is more important to me: the loss in value or the consistent presentation of my 1946 set?'
I was born in 1946. Completion of my 1946 set would be for me, a 'no brainer'.

999 welcome to the world of ICCS net grading instead of putting on a "details" description... (an issue I have with this company and how they grade)
The coin still does look great and I think it's safe to say that it would look even better with all the other '46's you have amassed...
Congratulations on "breaking free"

are the scratches in the protected areas like coming out of the portrait kind of? if so they are die scratches. your coin appears to have a cameo so they are very likely just die polish lines.
Feel free to call me Will.
