I had a interesting experience at a lcs. I was looking through their used albums for $5 and found a walker Whitman album with the last page full of xf walkers that I needed for my collection. There was atleast 16 walkers on the page.
It was so tempting to buy it and walk out of the store. My ethics was severely tested as a new collector. I can barely afford one junk walker a week and that's a stretch for me. However decided it would be totally wrong for me so I went to the owner to see how much he wanted and when he said $5. I said if he was sure he looked at me weirdly and said yes. I was like you need to see inside first. He almost had a heart attack and ran to the back to the store to an employee.
I was hoping he would sell me them at a little above spot for my honesty but he wanted $9 apiece. They were rather common dates junky so I couldn't justified that. As I was paying for some other stuff he atleast had me pick out the one I liked the best and gave it to for me honesty.
I'm hoping the coin gods will atleast credit me with some good karma for the honesty in my favor haha.

I am sure that was a tough decision to make. In addition to the Walker that he gave you, hopefully this dealer will remember and hook you up with some nice deals in the future!

I don't see that you made a tough decision at all.
All businesses ultimately depend on trust. That is how their reputation is built. In this case, the intending seller made an honest mistake, which was pointed out by you.
Even though I don't see it as a tough decision, you shoud be congratulated anyway. I hope you have congratulated yourself.
You wound up with a minor reward from him, and that is good.

Yeah I'm not sure how much I will continue going there. She's just really uncompetitive. I usually go there for supplies but she raised every thing a few dollars. They don't negotiate and tax kills there. I had them mischarge me tax there too. A employee rounded so I ended paying like 28% tax on a some items less then $15. It was partly why it was so hard.
I have far better dealers in town that are cheaper and give me twice the buy offer that she does usually. The only thing she has going for her is that I could walk there. I do like trading with her when no money is involved. She consistency trades 1:1 with me.

Yeah there was no way I could have actually did it but the temptation was there and so great. I'm happy I resisted it without too much hesitation haha.
I also got a good deal on some loose Canadian coins. Half face value for 40's-60's nickels and cents. 5 of them were 1960's proofs. I could never pass up a 1964 proof canadian cent for $0.005. I knew they had canadian that they took up to spend but I thought it was modern stuff from people's vacations. I took every older one they had like .70 worth that I paid .35 for.

I'm admiring the 1945 they gave me. It is pretty nice grade wise. No where near AU but close. It will be a cool reminder of it.

I know .. most would think about it ..
But you did the right thing. And built some trust that you can not buy.
Maybe someday that shop will have a coin you really want. And you might get a better deal now.

I wish more people had morals and ethics as high as yours. You make the scammers we see on ebay look like true scum.

My local coin shop had some used Littleton albums on sale for $5 each. I know that brand doesn't have the best reputation on here- but I bought one for Mercury dimes. I got it home and one page didn't feel right, turned out there were three coins from the first page that had slipped down between the cardboard sections. Nothing terribly valuable but maybe $20 worth by the book. Haven't been back since to that shop, knowing this dealer he'd probably say forget it.
