The price being asked for this one seems ridiculous to me.

See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-CENT-o...t_548wt_1153

The seller is threatening to put it up for sale through one of the traditional auction houses if there isn't a taker on ebay. What do you think it would realistically be bid up to in such a venue?

I could see it reaching 5 figures at Heritage. Ever seen a coin struck on a too-large planchet before? Me neither.

5 figures easy but nowhere near what he wants for it.
He's dreaming. It's super rare but with a limited market.

My thought also. Not a true "error" but a deliberate prank.

It's been on and off ebay for quite a while now and I believe I've read that it is a Mint assisted error. Other wise it can't happen

Those mint assisted errors are a way to line someone's pocket . They should be looked at as almost criminal. I mean literally it's not real.

This is bunk nonsense, all you would need is a counterfeit die which, wouldn't be impossible, and some nickel. I'm gonna start my own line of aluminum coins and sell them as originals for $5000 a piece.

Feel free to try and duplicate this, and good luck.
