Browsing a little while ago and I came across these, I am 99% sure they are Chinese fakes.

I don't think you would ever see 6 different date Half Cents looks so similar if you had been searching for 100 years.

and...a second lot also. (both reported)

Yuck. Looks like someone fell for that batch of Draped Bust Half Cents.

Most of these are fairly obvious with the 1800 being the most deceptive of the bunch.

My message to the seller:

Quote:
Dear ast.jon.1xzjw2dqp,

Hi!

Your Draped Bust Half Cents do not appear to be genuine.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Moe

My response back from the seller:

Quote:
Dear moe145,

Why do you believe that they are not genuine? I am not a professional grader so it is beyond my realm of expertise. I would like to know so that I may render a judgment myself. Also, please let me know your qualifications so that I can accept what you are telling me as being a basis of a professional judgment... Thank you for calling this to my attention.

Id tell you to tell him to take them to a coin store and get them looked at but somebody already bought them. They are not fake, they are only fake if they say copy on them.

Without a doubt, he's more guilty than the counterfeiters. Careful about accusing the Chinese, I had one of my post removed by the mods, all because I admonished the counterfeiters as Chinese.

I switched my focus from Commemoratives to Classics when all those fake ones were reported on here and until now, was actively shopping for a Half Cent....I could not tell a fake one from a real one and now the classic stuff is sketchy.....seems like every hobby I enjoy has been ruined by counterfeits.

With a little education you could spot fakes like this from a mile away. Stick around Nickels_rule, you'll learn a lot from the community. Enough so that you won't get taken in by these crooks.

Well Moe, as a member of Early American Copper and a member of the American Numismatic Association I will respond to the seller if you wish. I doubt any credentials will satisfy the seller as long as he is making money.

Your post was removed because you chose to disparage all Chinese instead of just the counterfeiters. We all know where the stuff comes from and none of us are afraid to bash them.
