Quote:*Also gonna list it in VAM forum due to DDO When you do that we have to go two separate places to give you information about the same coin. It's rather irritating. There's no problem with discussing variety in this thread as well. I have the same objection to posting Morgans in that forum when all the poster wants is a grade.

I'll reproduce your post from the other thread below. I'll take care of that thread, and there's no problem dealing with the whole thing here. Not many non-Morgan people go into that forum, but all of the Morgan people read this forum so you're not at a disadvantage for available knowledge.

This is Cascade's post from the second thread.Ok my peace skills are negligible so I need some help. What's up with the DDO? Looks like VAM 3 but with my coin ALL the letters of In God We Trust are doubled. Dosent show as well as in hand but u can see what I mean... VAM 3 states that only the "od we" are doubled? DOes letter doubling work in progression like this is an lds VAM 3?

Nice coin. I don't have any Peace dollars so I'll just have to look at pictures for now.

Die doubling doesn't progress except to wear away, so if it's that your coin is the EDS, and VAM-3's coin is the LDS. This is going to be very difficult to nail down due to the dearth of photographic information. Working from my phone I only see doubling in the first image.

I've tried sd but my photo skills and the toning / slab are preventing clearer pics of it. The first pic shows it decently and in the others it's the dark areas where the doubling is

I'm not very proficient with Peace dollars as I only have a few, but I'll say I really like the tone on this one. Seems to be a somewhat elusive condition for this series. I'm thinking maybe 64? I see what you mean regarding the doubling but have no knowledge of this series from a VAMming perspective.

Thanks dave, and U just reminded me... I remember reading somewhere that rainbow Peace dollars are somewhat rare. I was gonna ask about that and why and where mine stood in terms of color for a peace from those who know

The unfortunate truth is that anyone who searches varieties needs high-quality imaging equipment and skills for this process to be anything but guesswork. It's frustrating for all of us, and why we concentrate so hard on teaching photography here. The Mint used different planchet prep for Peace dollars and they - along with 1921 Morgans - aren't known for pleasing toning. Were this an 1885 I'd probably disqualify the toning on the spot. On this coin it could still be the result of the surfaces being previously stripped but it's a bit more believable.
