I recently went to coin show to sell a 1990 MS-69 $25 Gold Eagle graded by NGC.
They looked up the price in their greysheet. There prices were for all bu coins of that date.I was asking $200 less then the bid price.
Basically same response-Very nice coin,my price was fair but there is no demand at the current time so thanks but no thanks.. I understand they do not want to tie up $$$$$ in inventory, but the spread say from MS-60 to Ms-69 is considerable.I was glad to get their market opinion but disappointed on interest of the high graded differances.
Any thoughts or enlightenment appreciated.
Thanks

Tying up money on a coin that may become "dead" inventory does not make good business sense. It's all about supply and demand...especially with "better" date/condition AGE's.

That's why they told you what they did.

In fifteen years a total of 13 1990 G$25 Business Strikes have crossed the block at Heritage. And as it's an added-value coin in the grade, a dealer has to sink the cost of a Saint or 5 good Morgans into it. It's valuable but too niche for a generalist.

Try to remember that those dealers are there to make money. Usually they will not buy stuff for large sums of money at the show. They need money to change bills for customers and tying up to much cash at the show is not smart. Yes they will buy some coins but you would really need the right show and right dealers for that coin.

Thanks for all the feedback.....I understand the BUSINESS aspect, was suprised at the lack of a demand for coin in low supply.Lesson learned......back to Economics 101.
