Hello. My name is Elaine and I am from Washington state. I have been interested in coins for quite a few years and have saved wheat pennies for eons. Recently I purchased my grandmothers coins from my mothers estate. Not sure if it was a good deal or not. Mostly I wanted to have something that had belonged to my grandmother. It was an emotional purchase.
I need to organize what I have. Some coins are in books but most are not in anything.
I do wonder about when spending money for coins if you keep track of how much is spent on what is purchased. Do I keep that with the coin? Elaine

some members keep track of all details of a coin's purchase, some don't track much. I am in the later group.

Make an inventory book. list type of coin , date & mint, grade and price paid and the date you bought it. do this both for coins in albums as well as holder coins.(2x2 cardboard) give each holder coin an inventory number. and list that too in your inventory book. Happy coin collecting.

Welcome Elaine! The first rule of coin collecting is don't clean the coins. The second rule is get a good book. I suggest "A Guide Book of United States coins" or simply the Red Book. (Assuming we're talking about US coins of course.)

Elaine to CCF. You can do the inventory list if you want but another option is just save the printed receipts that will be sent with the order or a receipt that you print up if ordering (Ebay, etc!). I do the latter and I do that for two reasons if I ever sell and as a guide line for my estate. My main reason for collecting is because I enjoy it and not really in it for the profit.

Elaine, I too live in Washington State(Edmonds). I keep track of all my coins(mostly Third Party Graded coins) and are insured. All receipts, any related information and pictures of the coins are on file.
