I was looking around online and found this coin:
http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/2004fr...ordiale.html

It was out since 2004, so I am out of date but still.... when will the US Mint actually thinking of such design? A very impressive design (Marianne & Britannia - Conjoined or Opposed), IMHO.

that's a nice looking coin but I don't see us going to the Euro or anything like it in my life time or at least I hope not. that could mean the total collapse of this country as we know of it anyway

Surprisingly, it may not be THAT rare - the US did a medal design in collobration with the USSR back in 1988. (and when relations aren't really the best) Mintage of a mere 10,000. Who knows if there are more interesting designs years down the road.

Description: The peace and Co-operation Commemorative 5oz Ag, the first in the Series, represents the breakthrough of USSR-US relations after more than forty years of cold war tensions. Struck at the Leningrad Mint, the first prototype was presented at the White House by Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze, to U.S. Secretary of State George P. Shultz, on September 17th, 1987. Two artists, Tim A. Haskin of US, and Alexander Polodkin of USSR worked on this medal.

That coin is also a british five pound coin, and most people thought it ugly, it had the queen on the other side instead of some guys. People suggested it looked like the french woman had a stick to hit someone with, though I think it was the other way around on the british coin, so that britannia was up top.
