Pretty good day actually

The first, I have to agree with you after looking at it closer.
The second (even though no real value anyway) after closer inspection
i believe it was done at strike. The reason being (if you look closely)the spread on the arms of the F are not squashed enough to fill in all that silver. Also true with the A. The glob is in higher relief than the motto letters. Thus it is on top of them. A long shot,
but if something got in between the obv. die and stayed in postion long enough till strike, the effect could be thus. Unless someone knows the space between dies after ejection ? I don't, so I'm asking.
(if open enough to let a foreign object in between)

Both are post mint damage. The second coin was hit with a punch or damaged by drilling part way through. Neither had these things happen during the strike.

I agree with JM64-D Bag mark and looks like a metal punch was used on the coin. Worth melt as the 1951 is a cull/damaged coin.

Thank's for all the input.
It's gone now anyway, one in one of 9 rolls.
$4.75 for a half buck, what the hay.
Not to beat a dead horse but...
the drill bit (no pun intended:) makes sense
after real close inspection. However, for future reference
i was wondering if anyone who has real experience with the
actual punch process could answer the other part of my question.
That had to do with the actual space in between dies during
the insertion and ejection procedures. Was curious about the size
of a foreign object that could possibly get in between the dies and maybe cause a die crack, chip or even a break.
