Just ordered the Celestron Handheld Digital Microscope Pro that is on sale at both Walmart and Best Buy. Walmart is cheaper by $6.00 for $83.96 plus tax (free shipping). Has 5mp pixel size ompared to the others at 2mp size. Hope I'm not disappointed.

That looks like it would be just the ticket for me too. I'll really be interested in your review. The description doesn't say but I guess it's USB?

Ha! I was so coming in here to swing the banhammer. Brand-new member, first post titled "ON SALE...." Well, you can imagine what I was thinking. Celestron stuff is decent at the price, and these are very good prices. 5MP puts you into an image size where you can do realistic stuff to it in postprocessing if necessary, and still have to downsize to post online (with the resulting improvement in image quality). Good deal. Just be aware at this magnification hand holding is out of the question unless you have hands of stone.

To John1. Yes. I'm paying the extra money so if I don't like it, Walmart can take it back.

Hey PHanagriff, I ordered mine from Amazon as soon as I saw your post, it came today and I was disappointed, mostly with the field of view. I could not even get a nickel full frame. I suppose you could start modifying the mounts etc but I'm just not sure I'm interested in doing that. If it was taller so you could get back a little bit more it would be great. I see that the upright support is 5/8" tubing, I suppose if a guy took a length of 5/8" dowel........Hmmm...I'm thinking. OK, A quick trip to the hardware store for a 5/8" dowel and can get a Silver Dollar size coin in the frame now. Now the lighting is an issue but I think I am going to keep this unit.

Keep in mind, it's not in scope for USB microscopes to have a large-frame capability. That's not what a microscope is. So, those which can see entire coins are probably making optical compromises to get there.

Wow, thanks for the images, mine is supposed to be here Tuesday. Not wanting to take pictures ( I have a canon rebel for that) but really wanting to be able to use it for real time examinations of coins up close instead of magnifying glass. Thanks people for the welcome. I'll try not to excite the moderators with future post.

Got mine in yesterday. Took Nickles_rule's advice and substituted a 12" piece of dowel rod. Takes full photos of silver dollars. Now I need to figure out how to post a photo so you can see what sparked my desire to get back into coins. Thanks again to all of the comments and post. Stay tuned!

I love my USB MICROSCOPE ! Ordered it online for $40.00. If I question anything, it goes under the scope. Especially helpful confirming errors. As previously mentioned, it can be a challenge getting the whole coin in picture. Still working on getting pictures online though.... Enjoy your stay!
