I just picked this out of my last bulk purchase of PCGS MS-63s. I'm hoping someone can confirm that it is, indeed, a VAM 51A.

1902-O VAM-51A III220 · C4p (Doubled Ear & Profile, Near Date, Doubled Reverse Legend, Clashed Obverse G) (181) I-2 R-5
Obverse III220- Clashed die with partial incuse G of God from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck. Later clashed die states show filled base of 2.

In addition to the clashed "G", there appears to be a clashed "ST" in the hair vee. Also, on the reverse, some of the legend appears tripled, and the motto is doubled along with both left and right wreaths.

Oh yeah..... can anybody tell me why this is listed at $1200 in MS-60 in the Jan. 2007 VAMview Retail Price Guide?

Thanks!

Rick

that chart shows it being in the Super CD Clashed Morgan book but its not showing up in my Elite Clashed Morgan dollar book, the only 1902-O is the VAM-26A. I will keep looking and see if I can find out for you but right now its not in any of my books

Its showing it as a R-5 so I don't know why it would show a 1200.00 price for a MS-60

I don't know either.....

Check the VAM-26A shown right above it...... it's $3,000 in MS-60. And a R-5, also.

BTW, the 26A and 51A look an awful lot alike in earlier die states.....

Thanks again,

Rick

This may be why the pricing is as it is, I just noticed the date and around that time is when the Super CD was released I believe and that would have sparked interest in just about everything in there (I remember they had a 1878 VAM-84A way up there in price also and it is more common than the regular VAM-84)and probably not many of them known at that time either. I don't get VAMview price guides but from what I understand they take actual sales of the coins and give you the total so it should be pretty accurate for the time. Again this is pure speculation here

The VAMVIEW PRICE GUIDE is from prices realized from actual sales and I got that from the Man himself. This price could result from one or many sales but does not mean or imply that you will receive that much for it. Sadly, not all coin buyers have very deep pockets. However you have found a very nice VAM, if you keep it ---enjoy it, if you sell it-- I hope you get a ton!!
