Regarding toning:
In general, original toning that adds "eye appeal" will potentially raise the value of a coin, especially for silver coins. Uncirculated "rainbow"
Morgan dollars with vivid color may sell for many times the price of a brilliant coin of the same date and mint.
Toning that is dark, dull, or just plain ugly will usually lower the value. Some coins have been exposed to chemicals or heat-treated in an attempt to artificially create attractive tone. Coins with AT (artificial toning) are considered to be damaged by most collectors and their value may be greatly reduced.
