I just registered and tried to do a post in this forum but apparently I'm doing something wrong cause I can't find my post. I think I've read the rules correctly..... I do the image thing with "all you can upload" instead of image shack. When I preview my post everything looks good. I press submit and... nothing. I've learned that before buy/sell/trading I need a certain number of posts and/or be a member for a certain amount of time. I didn't think that applied to having coins graded. Am I wrong? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi why2k
Welcoem to the forum !
When you post pictures do not preview the post ,,doing so removes the picture ..
Just do the picture upload and then submit reply .
Hope you can get your pictures posted ,,Im looking forward to seeing them .
If you have more trouble just let us know !

I've never had this issue, but I've never posted a pic from an external place per say. They were either in my gallery or saved to my desktop....

Why2K, Make sure that you are "logged in" first. I've never lost a photo by previewing either.

I've recently acquired a small cache of American and European coins and this seems to be the best place to come and learn more about their grade, condition etc. This first coin is a 1921 Morgan, when I photographed it the image came out with a decidedly golden tone but in daylight there is only a hint of gold toning. I used my foto editor to convert it to grey scale so it looks closer to daylight viewing. Hope that didn't defeat the purpose. ***Edited by Forum Dad to fix image code.***

why2k, click on the icon on your post and you'll see how the image code should be.

As a side note, your pictures will need to be much larger to grade from. Couple of things to try. Save the image to your desktop and open with an editing program. Keep an eye on the file size. Typically you can have pixels set to about 500X500 and the file size will be small enough. Keep them there and crop out all background that you can. It is better to save with a little worse image quality than to have a really crystal clear picture that is a postage stamp in size.
let us know if you need any other help to get larger pics posted.

I clicked that box and then "post changes" but nothing happened. I'll try uploading again. ***Edited by Forum Dad to fix image code.... Again***

Forum Dad, your editing messages aren't helpful. When I return to the editing page what exactly am I supposed to do?

They're extremely helpful. Just look and see how I did it instead of changing it back to the wrong way.

Hello Why2K, Your latest photo is just a bit fuzzy but I'm willing to take a stab at grading.
The obverse has little or no visible wear but I do see slight wear on the eagle's breast and parts of the wreath on the reverse. The surfaces look pretty good, with no serious marks and no obvious sign of cleaning. I would expect stronger luster if the coin were mint state. Overall I'd guess your Morgan rates an AU-55 grade.
FYI, the 1921 is the most common Morgan date. Value for your coin would be in the $12 to $15 range, in my opinion.

Probably. You ARE a dinosaur around here.... quote: its been a very long time since I have used the preview feature
I have to as my mind goes faster than my fingers when I type. If I don't, most of my posts would be gibberish. why2k, the pictures are much better in that size, and as Jaobler stated, pretty good to grade from. If they could be just a tad "crisper", it would help immensely. Try using a tripod with your camera set on timer if you don't already.

Thanks for all of your help. I'll post crisper photos. Question: Is toning always good? I've always assumed that for a coin to be excellent quality it should look as close to it's original luster as possible. Or is toning on a coin like patina on an old bronze sculpture? Thanks
