My LCS has a rather unique business practice & I thought I'd share it with ya'll.
I overheard one of the dealers mention "Bourbon Friday" and didn't give much thought to it. By happenstance I happened to walk into that LCS one Friday & was greeted with a smile & a complimentary glass of bourbon. We chit chat (as we usually do) & I spent some money, (as I usually do).
On the way home it occurred to me that these guys are geniuses. Pick the day of the week the majority of people get paid & give them free booze (when they're already there to spend money). I don't want to say what I spent that day...but I think they may be onto something.
I got a "free" drink & they got a little deeper into my wallet. Brilliant.

Decades ago, my LCS (a leading coin business in Australia), was less then 5 minutes walk from where I worked in centre of the business district in Sydney.
Friendly Friday with a cuppa tea and a cookie, was the time winding down at the end of the working week, when I always spent a little more than I should have, and came home a little later than I should have.
Almost all of the coins that I acquired at the time I still have in my collection. I still maintain a friendly contact with most of the folks I met in those days. One or two of them have died since then; I am getting a little older, and have since retired from the workforce.
Those were the days when I was a 'cut lunch commando', using public transport for commuting.

This reminds me of a place I used to go to get my haircut in the late 60's. Every time you would go there the stylist would offer you a glass of champagne and a bowl of hash if you cared to indulge while he was cutting your hair. This guy was always booked 24 -7. He also gave great haircuts !

Great stories guys! I love doing business with places that don't seem like all they are interested in is, well...business.

My hair guy has an old cut and shave type barber shop with free beer in the fridge... Now I just need to see if he has some hash!

My the place I get my hair cut serves beers, which I won't complain about. I think if my LCS were to server whisky or scotch, I'd spent a whole lot MORE money there.

Unfortunately, I hate the taste of alcohol (which is good since I am a YN ) Quote: We tried that at the local gun shop. Only once.

Well, that does me no good, being sober nineteen years three months today. However, I would like to know more about this tea and cookie idea. Regardless, a smart idea. I am sure they have plenty of regular customers now.
