I bought a 76 proof Ike dollar with grade Pr70 by PGS. What do you really think it might grade? Don't have it in hand yet and don't know how to post pic on here.

Hi JMB1956 Thought I would keep your post up toward the Top, by asking a bit about what you like to collect!! Are the IKE's one of your favorites? what other coins do you Like ? Im into the Lincoln proofs and MS coins, also Mercury dimes, working slooooowly toward full band decade sets, Minus the keys unless I win the lottery ,but I will get what I can !!! Rick

You're buying a pig-in-a-poke when you buy any coin graded by one of the non-tiered or third-tiered grading "services", especially if it's graded PR70. With a few exceptions, such coins are typically overgraded from two to *eleven* grades too high as measured against the top-tiered companies (PCGS, NGC, ANACS). That said, one may still secure good deals when buying such overgraded coins. Often, these homebrewed grading companies scare off most or all buyers and one may submit a very low bid to buy a nice coin which has the misfortune to be in the wrong slab. Like Metalman suggested, we'd like to see a pic of the Ike when it comes in. This will give us a better opportunity to answer your question.

Thanks, Rick. Long hot summer and Katrina wasn't any fun either. I just am getting back into the swing of things today, so you didn't miss me. It'll be another couple weeks before I can get back on a regular basis, but it's really, really good to be back. Fred

In a nutshell: I was activated as a ham radio operator for emergency communications following Katrina. I spent five days in AL/MS/LA, part of the time providing commo for a hospital in Washington Parish, LA, about 50 mi north of NO. Mostly wind damage up there, but a lot of it. I ended up with a moderate case of heat stroke having come down from upstate NY where it was in the 40s into 90s with 90s humidity, so I departed early. I need reminding from time to time I am no longer a young man. The people in the stricken area, all very gracious and friendly were doing very well trying to get back to normal, albeit with many roads still closed, utility lines still down, and buildings/businesses/homes smashed by trees. In general terms coins by the low tier companies are off 2 to three points on modern coins when compared to the top tiers. You did not mention if the coin was silver or clad, but either way, you are more than likely looking at an average coin with a value of $4 to $10.
