Here is a really nice example of a colonial
shilling from Massachusetts Bay...1652.
Can you tell if it's a fake or who made it?
What is its value?

This is a definite fake unfortunately. The seam around the edge is a tell tale sign.

The 1652 Mass which I have is thinner than a dime. Is it just my coin or are they all so thin?

Definitely an electrotype. You can tell by the edge seam readily apparent.

I have yet to see a genuine Pine Tree Shilling.
There are lots of 'fakes' about, but they would be better classed as 'replics' or 'copies'.
Most of them are faithful to the original coins, but have some mark on them to indicate 'replica' or 'copy' or some other tiny but obvious mark to indicate that they are not the original coins. Usually, they are clearly enough marked to indicate that there is no intention to deceive.

That is, until the Chinese get around to making some very excellent fakes. They have no Laws to prevent them from doing so.

They are about the only way most of us will ever get a pine tree shilling into our collections, so it is still well worth keeping. I just does not have any real numisamtic value, unfortunately.

A lot of electrotypes were made in the 1960s and 70s. It is probably made of a base metal and not silver. It is not a copy unless it's clearly marked. I must consider this coin counterfeit.

Clearly a fake, and not a good one at that.
