Being a hobby newbie, I was wondering what the general consensus was about the "Starter Sets" you see advertised in CoinValues, Coin magazine, etc.

5 Premium BU Walking Liberty halves for $99 (1941-45)
8 Peace dollars for $169 BU

Are these for real? Has anybody actually bout one of these from someone? Was it worth it? Any of these guys to watch out for?

I suspect that most of these are cleaned coins or overgraded, but I wanted to check here.

Thanks a lot, you guys (and gals) are the best!

I've seen those ads but I never bought anything from them. I'm not so sure I would. You could probably find some nice examples of those particular coins a lot cheaper on ebay or perhaps even your local shop.

or Lincoln cents that were most of us started! plus a penny saved is a penny earned

I guess I should have googled first. A search for Skyline Coins, one of the advertisers came up with a thread on Cointalk.org (I would post a link but I'm not sure I can do that yet)that said they routinely sell dipped coins as BU. Just goes to show you, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

Basically just stuff someone doesn't want. Keep away from those so called great deals. Better off just buying rolls from a bank and going through them.
