Hey I've got a Cousin that's been sent to Iraq and I'd like to send him a "lucky coin"....... are there any famous "lucky coins". I was going to send him a Buffalo nickle or an Indian Head penny, but the more I thought about it, I figured maybe to ask everyone their opinion on this. I have Large cents, 3 cents, all the Barber denominations, Morgans, Peace, Mercury, etc. etc. etc. I don't really know, is there a coin known to be "lucky". I'm not superstitious and I doubt he is either, but I just thought he could keep it in his pocket while he's out there.
He's in contact with the civilian population almost every day on patrols looking for bad guys on some list and helping with the police force, and I figure he needs all the luck he can get !

Everyone knows ancient coins are lucky, since they have already survived many centuries. If you are interested I will be happy to send you a free pocket piece to give to him.

I'd go American Eagle. Great american symbols and the obvious silver content could help him out in a bartering situation.

A nice ASE like Vaslin said. Or some type of commemorative coin from his birth year.

I remember they used to stick a penny found on the ground (face side up only) into penny loafers for good luck ....

Also, my friend from Ireland sent me an "Irish Penny" for good luck once.

Also, they do have some coins with clovers on them... four leaf clovers are lucky.

I think I like the American Eagle idea ! Could help stop a bullet too ! I heard on the news a wedding ring stopped a bullet a couple weeks ago !
I'll have to go buy one, I only have "proofs" sealed in cases....... he'll want to put it in his pocket and space is a commodity with those uniforms I'm sure. Thanks all for the suggestions.

I like the American Silver Eagle too. Get the year that's significant to him. However, silver is soft and can easily damage... you may want to put it in an airtight (the round one that perfectly fit the coin in) and let him decide to keep it that way or take the coin out of the holder.

Some one mentioned about bartering. It may be nice if you can send him some silver dimes (Roosevelt/Mercury) or quarter that he can put in his pocket.... he can do some bartering/trading with the local.... that would be nice too.

Tell him good luck and we all wishing him the very best - Thank you for serving this country.

The Canadian looney?

Well, then he can say, "Hey, I'm not American, see! I'm Canadian!"
