 << Me> new and this forum thing is even newer ... so hang with me,tell me what all I do wrong has anywun heard of a '43 penny being copper plated? I have one ... it sticks to a magnet unfortunately I have several stashes of coins and as yet have not come across it to photo ... if any info on this I would above average appreciate --- I will find and post pix asap I have a Pirate Cob? took me two days to find ... and it's BIG but I got a picture on here in, help id coin forum *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Many people plate them as fakes and just as a science experiment.

 to CCF.I have a 1943 LWC plated in copper,a gift from a CCF member(thanks again). If you have a real copper 1943 it is worth big bucks. Weight it is your first step then post a few pics. John1

Well, the fact that he knows it sticks to a magnet kind of identifies it as a Steelie.  During the 50's, those sort of plating experiments were de rigueur in US Science classes. There are a ton of such coins floating around.

Welcome to CC! The copper plating of 1943 steel cents is VERY common, I have a couple of them. It is consider PMD since the coins are altered outside of the Mint.

 I'm on board with everyone else here. Because it sticks to a magnet, it's PMD (post mint damage).

Yes, I've had several. I had one that was plated, and toned with circulating, making it the EXACT COLOR of a 1943 cent you'd see, or any other normal copper Wheat cent. It wasn't all discolored like the plated ones you see.

spent the whole day today going through 1 box of coins .. didn't find it, but at least I do no where my old Silver Dollars are ... 1879-1923 and on the newer side 1974 IKE and 1995 and 1996 Silver Eagles. Have 5 more SE's but they must be with the penny ... --- ... still lookin
