From NZ Post website:

The coin

The coin features a New Zealand and Australian soldier standing back to back with their heads bowed in remembrance. The mangopare (hammerhead shark) pattern symbolises strength and determination, and the silver fern reflects New Zealand's national identity. To represent New Zealand's national colours, the mangopare is coloured white on the coin, with the background coloured black.

Mine arrived too. Really nice coins.
Mintage is only 1 million, which was the population of NZ in 1915.

Thanks guys. Last month I saw this thread, unaware of the coin. I thought it looked interesting and put in an order. I received a roll of unc. Anzac Commemoratives today. This was my first order from any mint. I only wanted one coin but the roll was so cheap compared to a carded single coin that I opted for a roll of 20.

So, now; here's my dilemma: The roll looks too pristine and nice to open. I have the Queen on each end of the roll with no reverse to view. Sure, I should have thought about this before I ordered but it was my first time

Don't open the roll go back and order one or two single coins. I repeat don't open the roll it may be an error my roll has the obverse showing on one end and the reverse the other. Smile you have either got a real find or just learnt a very cheap lesson in collecting coins, and are much wiser as a result. Having learnt the hard way a long time ago I ordered a roll and two single coins(. I am asking the RNSNZ ( NZ numismatic society) about this to find out if you have got an error of sorts)

Edit: I received this from the NZ numismatic Jnl editor:

Quote:
I believe all permutations are possible - not sure of the exact proportions, but two obverses is a bit disappointing when the reverse is the relevant bit.

Heres my reply to that( poorly worded but you will get the drift):

Not so exciting then. IMO its just another example of NZ posts disconnect with the collecting community. A collector would have known that the expectation was for obverse and reverse tobe displayed at opposite ends of the roll. Even with such a low value item....the customer satisfaction that would result from understanding the customer groups expectations would have enhanced NZ posts reputation. I would never have thought they would not have ensured both sides were displayed

I used to buy regularly from NZ post. In 2009( or a little later) they committed, for me, the most evil of sins in numismatics. They cashed in on collector demand by restriking coins. This ANZAC coin was the first purchase I have made since then. Given ichirensha's experience I know I won't be making another purchase again for an equally long time. The problem is NZ post thinks coin collectors are Stamp collectors( I hate stamps BTW)

Edit 2: I am actually disappointed for you. I suggest you contact NZ post and complain. Ask them for a replacement roll with the obverse and reverse showing. Politely request they cover the postage for your return of the item and their sending of a replacement. They will probably politely decline. However you will be doing the world numismatic community a service by asking as it will give NZ post clear, for them, feedback on their product.

Steve, why do you think I would be getting a validation error on the NZ post website (from the link) when I try to order my COA? Has anyone else had problems?
