When I CRH I almost always run into some decent cents that I would have kept but they had verdigris (green coloring) on them so I toss them back into circulation. For my LWCs and Canadian pennies with verdigris I separated them each into their own bags and have not got rid of them yet. I don't have any semi or key dates in there that I know of but because they are wheat or Canadians I'd like to hang onto them if I can save them. What is the true effect of the verdi-care product? In some threads I read it will remove the green look while in others I hear it will simply "persevere" the coin from verdigris spreading even further but doesn't do anything to help prior damage that was already done. See this thread for example.. https://goccf.com/t/120724&whichpage=1In that case it looked like the green is totally gone from his coin. What are your experiences with the product? Thanks!

Considering that its' inventor is an active member of this forum (one of our top 10 posters) and it first appeared here at CCF, we should be able to get you some clear advice. Verdi-Care was created by a working chemist who is also a Lincoln Cent nut. It removes verdigris, prevents further progress, and protects the surfaces into the future. Many, many coins thus treated are in TPG holders now. And no, CCF has no skin in the game. The stuff is just that good.

Verdi-Care will remove most of the verdigris on copper coins. It will also preserve the coin against further damage. just follow the direction on bottle.

I don't think you can remove the verdigris at a cost that makes sense for common cents. I have well over 500 pennies that I have segregated from the coins I keep. I believe you can use verdi-care on coins that have some value but not on common coins. It isn't cheap. Just my 2cents.

Is that wizard coin place the only place you can buy it? How Far does the 60ml bottle go (how many pennies will it fix?) With shipping its $20! Thanks!

Green on silver is much more likely PVC plasticizer byproduct than verdigris, a different beast entirely which needs acetone to properly treat. With that said, Verdi-Care will do the same thing for verdigris on silver (it can happen) as it will copper, so it's no harm to you to do acetone first and then Verdi-Care if that doesn't work. And an acetone wash for coins you're about to use Verdi-Care on is a good thing, anyway, as it'll remove any organic contaminants which might get in the way of the Verdi-Care's process. If you buy Verdi-Care on ebay, you're probably buying it directly from Thad himself.

Looks like it's still $20 on ebay too. Any idea how many pennies can be fixed with the 60ml bottle?

Agreed, but I should mention that the 10% copper in silver coins could result in verdigris. This thread has some good information... https://goccf.com/t/99789

The ingredients in the product are quite expensive which is why the selling price is somewhat high. However, once you're experienced with using it, you'll find you can be very conservative in it's use (spot treating) and one bottle will go a long way and treat dozens of coins.

My last bottle lasted over a year and a half, as far as number of coins, it all depends on how much needs to be removed

sa33206...This is a good product to have and to use on copper you would like to keep. Buy it, use it and decide for yourself. It come with very good directions. Every collector should have a bottle of this and a supply of acetone. Good luck and let us know what you think of it.
