My wife always records this show to watch later, they do a pretty good job presenting their subjects.

It held my attention for the first minute or so going over the history of the penny then it got into that silly political argument and I tuned out.

Coming from New Zealand I can see what they mean as everything has gotten dearer --although we still use $10.95 on our price tags and if you pay cash its $10.90 but if you pay by card its $10.95 as we say 1-5 goes down 6-9 goes up but only if paying cash. It does make it easier on the pocket by not carrying so much jingle(change). These days I carry a eftpos card no cash mostly
Cheers Don
Vickies cents and GB Farthings nut. "Old" is a figure of speech and nothing more

I say get rid of the bloody cent already. They don't have any buying power, people don't want them and leave them in the penny try for the next customer when they get their change. These cost more to make than they're worth anyways. Why are Americans so afraid of change? (No pun intended).

If we got rid of Cents this subforum would evaporate.

I like the cents because their color is different from all of the other coins currently being made for circulation.
Pennies in a pocketful of change offset all the nickel color. Imagine having a handful of change without pennies? Pretty boring as well as harder to tell what is what.

You don't need to imagine it, you just need to go up into Canada and buy something! The only other color is in the center of toonies. .... and Loonies! ... and not the center of loonies but the whole coin as we all know.

If cents were no longer issued for circulation, you never know: 1.) Zincolns may actually become to be appreciated by collectors.
2.) I think there will always be collectors of cents, just as there is with all other no longer issued denominations.
3.) The U.S. Mint may start producing off metal proof silver and gold cents for collectors. All gold and all silver proof sets of currently issued coins have been made for Australian collectors. Only 300 all gold sets for 2006 that include our no longer issued cent, were produced.

Quote: Zincolns may actually become to be appreciated by collectors. Zlincolns will probably outlast you and I, but being zinc I don't see them lasting a century before they corrode away. Time to return lacquer to acceptability in numismatics.
