Hi guys, I just got home from one of my dump banks, and I had an unnerving conversation with one of the tellers.

This is a ranch of TD Canada trust, and I regularly go every Monday after work and dump about $1500 to $2000 of quarters, dimes, and nickels.

She told me that because of the large amount of coins I was going through that they will need to start charging me, to recoup their costs to ship out the coin.

There was no specifics, and it was not a specific threat, but one that "May" happen.

I was wondering if any other people who move similar volumes have issues?

Also does any one have hard facts on the coin counters at these banks? They are Coinstar machines, but I fear they may lose money because of inaccuracies.

$1500-$2000 in loose change every week? If I may ask, why are you dumping so many coins. IMO if you're going to dumping that much without a very good reason they should be charging you. After all, imagine how many kilos tons of coins they have to ship out each month because of you.

Perhaps you could just put the coins away until the weekend or when you have time and deposit them at a different bank assuming there is one.
Feel free to call me Will.

I've had 2 BMO Harris branches tell me that it was company policy to charge me to dump (which it is). One that I went to weekly and one that I went to once a month.

I stopped going to those branches and have had no problem with 2 other BMO branches I use.

Folks dropping off far less have the same issue ($100-$200 depending on denomination). I guess your lucky streak is coming to an end. Did she say how much she'd charge? You may want to inquire if her fair warning becomes the real deal.

Lets see... I'm going to say not even a single ton since those coins, multiplied by four for each week in the month, still won't come to a ton (2000 lbs). I'm actually going to be a little wild here and say not even a half ton.

For some reason I feel like this may happen at one of my dump banks... I spread out my dumps to a branch every two weeks and it is only a box of half dollars.. Better bring donuts for them soon and beat them to the punch ;)

Yeah maybe spread the love around a bit to a few banks. I feel bad dumping $100 in nickels every few weeks in their machine of my bank but I think it's enough to fly under the radar. I have more eye brows raised taking the nickels then bringing them back.

I don't dump nearly that much weight, what do you take a wheely to bring in those boxes? But I spread between 3 branches that I rotate by week, so don't go in to each branch more than once every 3 weeks. If I get a teller that doesn't record my account # on the slip then I'll go there more often. Not sure if this solution would work for you as the branches might record totals in computer anyways?
