Hope I am in the right forum here.
I know nothing about this 1896 no mint mark Morgan .Dumb question time.
Looking through a 10x magnifier on the reverse I can see all kinds of cracking around the top side of the lettering through the wing tips and in other places.
Is this any kind of error or variety that has any value ?

I don't think I could get good enough pictures with the camera I have .
Any thoughts or help is appreciated.

Die cracks are extremely common on Morgan dollars. It's quite likely that you could find some on almost every single known 1896-P Morgan at some point during the life of the die pair. It's definitely a "variety," because they all are. Which one it is, we'll never know without pics and probably not afterward.

T1Steel, you are at the right spot, and moving in the right direction. Some quick thoughts to bring you up to speed. VAMming is the art/science of matching your coin to the individual dies that made the coin. Most VAMs carry no premium beyond personal satisfaction, but a very few can be real pricey. The cracks you post can be very helpful to verify the VAM, but may not be the easiest route to identify the VAM. Cracks in dies are a lot like wrinkles in our skin. They grow over time, and sometimes get removed. But one thing that doesn't change is the date position. Some are in a different position than others, and can be a useful way to eliminate some of the possibilities. A photo of the date will go a long way in this exercise.
The 1896 is a good coin to start with. There is lots of documentation, and the choices are not overwhelming.
It is likely that your camera is capable of doing more than you think.
Vamworld has a great repository of data, and photo matching is possible.
Good luck, and feel free to ask questions.
Rest in Peace

Attribution of an 1896 (P) Morgan begins with narrowing down the possibilities by determining the date position. You could burn a lot of time just looking for a specific die crack as the primary pick up. Welcome to the madness!

@T1steel. 1921 morgans are an intermediate to expert level pain in the neck, eyes & butt to attribute by die cracks. I suggest you get well versed before trying to tackle the 21 but you can post her too and we'll help you out... SsuperDdave Loves em

1921's can be easy to identify by die cracks unless owned by someone named srs77.

Your 1896 looks like a VAM-26. http://www.vamworld.com/1896-P+VAM-26
