Hi there all... My name is Mike and I have been a general collector of 19th through 20th century coins for years and also a dealer since I started my business in 2010. My son was searching through some tubes of Mercury dimes and low and behold a 1924-P Merc has an "O" to the lower right of the fasces. I have NEVER seen this before on ANY other Mercury dime or anything quite like this on ANY other coin that is not supposed to have an "O" on it as Mercs were not struck out of the New Orleans Mint. It's not even where the mint mark is supposed to be which is the lower left as there is just a random "O" on the reverse and you can tell it is part of the coin. I can only think this coin has tremendous value since it is most likely unique and has never been seen before and I will not let it out of my sight. Any information you may have that may be helpful on this would be most appreciated. Thanks! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Edited by OneofaKind 04/16/2015 01:36 am

All we can see from your photos is a blob of something to the right of fasces.

Can't wait for better pics ...crop till you drop! And also, try taking a pic of the "o" through a jewelers loop if you have one

I agree better pics would help. We can't tell a thing from these. It would be rather interesting to see something there.

I suspect a punch mark with a round pointed object that has pushed up a circle of metal around the mark.

When taking the pictures Need good light, good focus and steady hand ... Tripod can help. Then have a photo app/program. To help with cropping the photo, And adjusting the file size. I download Picasa 3 ...it's free ... There is a photo sub section here on CCF .. Where the experts can help

I will post higher quality pictures of the error sometime today. But you can tell the "O" was not added as some have suggested as you will see when I post the batter pictures of same.

I wont say anything for sure but it is most likely a lamination error that has folded over, a die chip or a hit/ damage that has worn to a point where it appears to be something.
Feel free to call me Will.

I need to get a better camera... The pictures aren't quite right but I can assure you all the "O" is there. I need to get a clear close up shot of it. I'll be back!

It most likely got hit with some pointed object and the surrounding area got push outward, over time it flatten out from circulation.

Could be almost anything. A Cud from the Mint, hit with something, put there purposely. Really could use much better photos.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I agree that it's probably nothing. I'd like pictures, but an 'O' shaped mark could be created in any number of different manners, from a post-mint punch to some sort of strange Cud.
