I had the opportunity to look through $86 or $87 in CWR yesterday. The lady that brought them in said she had already taken them to a coin shop where they picked out the silver ones for her. They must have missed a couple, because I picked out 2 40%: a 1967 & 1968. The 1967 appears to be SMS but is impaired and went into my bullion/junk silver box. Also scored three nice clad proofs (1980S, 1989S, and 2009S), several NIFC, and numerous hole fillers. The rest were mostly a mix of early 1970s and Bicentennials. It was my best half haul yet, however!  |

pamelajoe, buffalo boy is a guy who frequents a different coin forum. It appears he looks through ALOT of boxes each week, so I'm certain you'll see many more of his marked coins in the future.

I Finished boxes 13 through 18. After I look for silver on the edge, then check dates and errors.
Box 13 had 2 90%'s (44, 63d), and 1 40% (66).
Box 14 was a skunk.
Box 15 had 3 40% (66, 68d, 69d).
Box 16 had 4 90%'s (62d, 63d, 64, 64d) and 1 40% (68d).
Box 17 was a skunk.
Box 18 had 1 90% (63).
NIFC and coin error count will follow at a later time.
That is a total of 27 90% (1.50 average per box) and 37 40% (2.05 average per box)
Have more boxes on waiting for me. Will keep you updated.

CoinWorld issue, July 28, 2014, has an article about CRH who found an 1861-O half dollar. They said this is worth between $1,116 and $3,593 from Heritage Auctions. The good stuff is still out there! Good hunting to all!

pamelajoe, I do not know where buffaloboy is from other than somewhere in the eastern US.
Your silver average is waaaaay better than mine. I've been through 53 boxes in the last year and only found about 25, 40%-ers and 8, 90%-ers. In my experience, boxes are not good in the NW or SE USA! I think having higher population in your area helps increase your finds...Enjoy!

Hcmusicguy, it's not that the shop missed the 40%'ers, it's probably that they just weren't interested.
My LCS won't even pay $1 for them. Back in 1980 and $50 silver, we threw the 40's back as they were considered dirty.

They would be idiots to not buy 40%ers for $1 each. Can get 60-70 all day long on ebay per roll. After fees that equates to at least a $50 profit above face. If they bought for $1 per coin they could easily more than double that. When silver was $50 an ounce 40% rolls were going for around 150 a roll, so why in the world would you just throw them back? They were going for 15x face value! |

If you were there, you knew the lines to sell 90% were long, and we threw the 40% back. The Hunts wanted close to .999 as possible. Refining 40% silver costs money. I was at the bank today and figured "Ah, what the heck" I'll ask if they have any rolls of half dollars. They had $60 worth of CWR and I ended up with 3- 40%ers. A '66, '67, and a '68. Maybe I should ask more often...

in all my coin collecting years I have been fascinated with Walking Liberty half dollars. I've always wanted to find one while crh but haven't yet to this day so I jusT had to go on ebay to buy one what can you do. An addiction can make you do crazy things I'm still going to continue to look my goal is to get one crh |
